We are delighted to invite free entries to Funeral Services NI’s 2nd Annual National Poetry Competition to find the best poetry from across Northern Ireland. The theme for this year’s National Poetry Day on the 3rd October is “Water”.

We are taking this opportunity to invite poems on the subject of “Reflection”.  Be that reflecting on a life, reflecting on the world or actual physical reflections, we look forward to reading your poetic interpretations.

You must be 18 or over to enter and only one poem may be submitted per person. Your poem may be written in any form but must be in English and no longer than 30 lines. It should be on the theme “Reflecting” and “Reflection”.

The closing date for entries is 12pm (midday) on Thursday 14th November. You must be available to attend an awards event to celebrate the creativity of those entering the competition at Parliament Buildings, Stormont on Wednesday 20th November.

Wednesday 20th November 2013: Celebration Event at Parliament Buildings, Stormont. All entrants are invited to attend our celebration at Parliament Buildings, Stormont, where regional winners from Co Antrim, Co Armagh, Co Down, Co Fermanagh, Co Londonderry, Co Tyrone and Belfast will be chosen and invited to read their poems at the event before the overall winner is announced in front of the invited audience.

Funeral Services Northern Ireland invites entries from poets over the age of 18 who are resident in Northern Ireland and are currently unpublished. The total prize fund is £800.

One winner will be chosen from Co Antrim, Co Armagh, Co Down, Co Fermanagh, Co Londonderry, Co Tyrone and Belfast. They will each win £50 cash prize and an overall winner will be chosen to win a £500 cash prize.
