2014 Winner – Mark Cooper
We are delighted to invite free entries to Funeral Services Northern Ireland Annual National Poetry Competition to find the best poetry from across Northern Ireland. The theme for this year’s National Poetry Day on Thursday October 2, 2014 is “Remember”.
We are taking this opportunity to invite poems inspired by the word “Remember” – a word that resonates, whether whispered low or shouted from the roof-tops. An invitation, a threat, an incantation, a question, a prayer, a lament, a life well lived, a lesson in life, a cry of glee. The choice is yours.
We look forward to reading your poetic interpretations.
You must be 18 or over to enter and only one poem may be submitted per person. Your poem may be written in any form but must be in English and no longer than 40 lines. It should be based on the theme: “Remember”.
The closing date for entries is 12pm (midday) on Friday September 19, 2014. You must be available to attend an awards event to celebrate the creativity of those entering the competition in the Long Gallery at Parliament Buildings, Stormont on the evening of Thursday October 2, 2014.
Thursday October 2, 2014: Celebration Event in the Long Gallery at Parliament Buildings, Stormont. All entrants are invited to attend our celebration at Parliament Buildings, Stormont, where the top ten finalists from the entries across Northern Ireland will be invited to read their poems at the event before the overall winner is announced in front of the invited audience.
Funeral Services Northern Ireland invites entries from poets over the age of 18 who are resident in Northern Ireland. The competition is open to both published and unpublished poets, however the poem entered must not have been previously published – in either a paid or unpaid capacity.
One overall winner will be chosen to win a £500 cash prize. More information on this can be found on our Prizes page
